Pediatrics Staff Chesapeake, VA

Pediatric Partners of Hampton Roads Pediatric Staff

Pediatric Partners of Hampton Roads (PPHR) is an independently-owned pediatric practice located in Chesapeake, Virginia.  Although the practice was founded in 2002, Dr. Vernita N. Peeples, has been practicing pediatrics for over twenty years.  Dr. Peeples received her medical training at Eastern Virginia Medical School and her pediatric training at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.  She admits to CHKD and sees newborns at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and the Sentara Norfolk Hospitals.  She is also an Assistant Professor, Community Faculty Division, at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Pediatric Partners also staffs  one certified Nurse Practitioner Heather Westfall, CPNP,  who, with Dr. Peeples, provides excellent pediatric care.  PPHR’s major goal is to partner with parents to promote children’s health through education.  Our patient portal allows families to schedule appointments, access their children’s medical records and send secure messages to the providers.  This gives them the opportunity to become active participants in their child’s care from newborn to adulthood.

Call today- our courteous and friendly staff will gladly schedule your child’s appointment.  Same day appointments are also available.

Vernita  N. Peeples, MD

Chesapeake, VA Pediatrics

Dr, PeeplesDr. Peeples grew up in Hampton Roads in rural Southampton County.  She decided at an early age to become a doctor but chose pediatrics when two of her siblings were diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. She felt that although they were managed adequately, not enough time was spent teaching her family how to properly control the disease.  She has dedicated her practice to educating her families and patients, especially in the treatment and management of chronic illnesses.  Dr. Peeples has a special interest in asthma education and management.

Dr. Peeples attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where she received her BS in Biology.  She returned home to attend Eastern Virginia Medical School and then residency training at the Children’s Hospital of the Kings’ Daughters.  In 1992, Dr. Peeples joined a practice where she honed her pediatric skills.  In 2002, she, with her best friend, the late Henri Barnwell, founded Pediatric Partners of Hampton Roads, PC.

She maintains her board certification in Pediatrics and is an Assistant Professor at EVMS.  She is married to her high school sweetheart, Wayne, and is the mother of four children, Caryn, Wallace, Kevin and Nicole.

Dr. Peeples embraces her rural roots and uses her down-home “folksy” wisdom to provide quality pediatric care to the families of Hampton Roads.

Heather Westfall, CPNP

Chesapeake, VA Pediatrics

Heather Westfall Profile pictureHeather was born and raised in Hampton Roads, attending Hickory High School. After graduation, she enrolled at Christopher Newport University majoring in childhood psychology but quickly realized that this was not her lifelong passion.  Remembering a summer in middle school when she volunteered at Chesapeake General and how much she enjoyed that time, she quickly changed her major to nursing and moved back home to attend Old Dominion University. Her senior year she completed a clinical rotation at CHKD and immediately fell in love with the pediatric population.   After graduating in 2007 with her Bachelor’s in Nursing she began her nursing career right where she wanted, working with kids at CHKD in Norfolk.

Heather worked her way up on her nursing unit, going from staff nurse to preceptor and eventually charge nurse.  After 3 years, she applied and was offered the position of Education Coordinator of one of the medical-surgical units where she would run new-hire orientation for her unit as well as staff education.  In 2012 she enrolled at University of Alabama at Birmingham in their Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. She traveled back and forth to Alabama during her program and graduated in April 2014.

Heather married her best friend, Robert Westfall, in October 2012.  They share a love of the healthcare field as he graduated from ODU with a degree in Biology and is currently attending and will graduate the EVMS Physician Assistant Program in 2017.  They had their first child, Emma, in May 2014.  When not at work, you can find Heather at the beach with a good book, shopping, or spending time with her family.

Heather joined Pediatric Partners in December 2014 and she looks forward to meeting and getting to know all of the wonderful families that trust in this wonderful practice!
